Web design agency or software company? A guide to choosing in Izmir

The two don't do the same job: where the difference starts, which project suits which, and the eight questions to ask when comparing quotes.

Someone who wants a website built will often search for "Izmir web design agency" or "software company", and end up with quotes that look very much alike. Yet the two don't do the same job. In this post we explain the difference, which kind of work suits which, and the questions to ask when comparing quotes. We are a software company, so we try to keep this fair and describe where each side is strong.

Where does the difference start?

A web design agency usually focuses on the look of the site, the brand identity, the content and the promotion. Many agencies add services such as advertising, social media and content production. The site is often built on a ready-made platform or theme.

A software company focuses on the software behind the site: the admin panel, custom features, integrations with other systems, speed and security. It can do the design as well, but the weight is on code and architecture.

This is a generalisation; there are many exceptions on both sides. What matters is which side your project needs more.

When does a web design agency fit?

  • If your priority is brand identity, visual storytelling and a campaign,
  • If you want a promotional site of a few pages and no custom features are needed,
  • If you want advertising, social media or content production from the same place.

When does a software company fit?

  • If you need features such as appointments, memberships, payments or product and stock management,
  • If you want your own admin panel and need integrations with CRM, accounting or payment systems,
  • If you are planning a mobile app or custom software alongside the website,
  • If you care about the site being fast and secure and about not depending on ready-made plugins,
  • If you want the source code, domain and server in your name, and long-term technical support.

Eight questions to ask when comparing quotes

Whichever side you choose, comparing quotes with the same questions makes the decision easier:

1. Platform: Will the site be built on a ready-made theme or on custom code? 2. Admin panel: Is there one, and which sections can I update myself? 3. Ownership: In whose name will the domain, server and source code be? Can they be handed over when I ask? 4. Price and scope: Is the price fixed? Does the quote say in writing what is and isn't included? 5. After launch: How are bug fixes, updates and maintenance handled? 6. Team: Does the same team do design and software? If work is outsourced, who is responsible? 7. References: Open the live reference sites on your phone and look at their speed, how they look on mobile and how they are managed. 8. SEO foundations: Are titles, the sitemap and structured data set up from the start, or will they be added later?

Does being local matter?

It isn't required; working remotely goes smoothly. But being in the same city makes face-to-face meetings easier, lets you meet quickly and allows on-site support when needed. When choosing a team in Izmir you can count this as a plus; what decides it is still the answers to the questions above.

You don't have to choose between the two

For most businesses, what is needed is good design combined with solid software. That is why we run design and development in the same team, and focus on the site itself: design, software, launch and the support that follows. The shortest way to find out which side suits you is to be clear about what the site will be used for.

Conclusion

The difference is less about the name and more about the scope. The right team depends on whether you want your site only to present the business, or to carry features such as appointments, payments or a panel.
